¨ May 21, 2008: The California
Department of Conservation today unveiled a new report showing that Californians
are recycling a record number of beverage containers. More than 14.7 billion
beverage containers were recycled by Californians in 2007, an 11% increase over
2006 levels, and 50% more than were recycled just five years ago. Overall,
nearly one million tons of glass, aluminum, and plastic beverage containers are
now recycled in California under the state’s 20 year old Container Recycling
Law. No other state comes close to matching this level of container recycling. (source,

¨ April 3, 2007 - Discovery
Center to open within the Reagan Library for the 2007-2008 school year - The
Library’s Discovery Center will integrate four learning modules to allow
students a fully immersive educational experience. A Boeing 707 Air Force One
flight simulator will put students in the cockpit, and will engage them in
presidential experiences. A White House Press Room, complete with green screen
technology, allows students to write and perform speeches while standing in
front of the Brandenburg Gate, the White House, or other historically
significant locations. An Oval Office replica places students behind the most
important desk in the United States, role-playing decision-making scenarios that
could affect our nation and the world. A high-tech recreation of the Command
Center aboard the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan will have students not only simulating
real-world scenarios, but will also allow them to communicate with sailors
onboard the real U.S.S. Ronald Reagan. (source)
